Business Model

International Stem Cell Corporation’s core mission is to develop therapeutic products from its own intellectual property. ISCO has pioneered a new class of pluripotent human stem cells derived from unfertilized eggs. These stem cells, known as human parthenogenetic stem cells (hPSC) avoid the ethical issues associated with embryonic stem cells while retaining many of the advantages.
 
ISCO’s Research and Development team are using these stem cells to make important breakthroughs in the treatment of a number of serious diseases where cellular replacement has been shown to be effective clinically, but there is no viable source of safe, ethical cells to treat patients. However this is a multi-year effort so at the same time ISCO has developed two successful business units which generate revenues from the sale of products that use scientific discoveries made by ISCO providing practical, short-term applications of ISCO’s human cell research capabilities.
 
Our wholly-owned subsidiary Lifeline Skin Care, Inc. is a cosmeceutical business which develops, manufactures and markets cosmetic skin care products using a proprietary extract derived from our pluripotent stem cells that has been shown to have a beneficial effect on skin cells. Lifeline Skin Care’s products are regulated as cosmetics and sold nationally and internationally through a branded website, various etailers such as Amazon, as well as through dermatology and cosmetic surgery offices, medical, day and resort spas and a number of international distributors.
 
Our wholly-owned subsidiary Lifeline Cell Technology, LLC is a research products business which develops, manufactures and commercializes human cell culture products, including frozen human “primary” cells and the reagents (media) needed to grow, maintain and differentiate the cells. Lifeline Cell Technology’s products generally do not contain non-human animal material, a feature desirable with researcher working on human diseases. These research products are marketed and sold by an internal sales force, OEM partners and a number of distributors in Europe and Asia.
